Hey all! My name is John.
I Just got my bike running (Been in my shop for 8 months :\  ) and kinda being new to the area I am looking for people to make friends with, share knowledge and most importantly go riding with. I currently live in Port St Joe, FL. I know its kinda far from where you all are but its all good.

I ride a Suzuki RF900R. I had a Sportster as my first ride but then decided that i would like more of a sport/ touring bike.

Hello John and welcome.

What was wrong with the bike that it took so long to get straightened out?

...kinda being new to the area I am looking for people to make friends with, share knowledge and most importantly go riding with. I currently live in Port St Joe, FL.

The small membership group here is pretty spread out around the state with little pockets here and there, so it's not a group that can easily organize weekend excursions except in those small pockets. Mainly as a group of bikers what we do is organize trips and get togethers on a bigger scale several times a year. Although not many, these get togethers can be found in the Calendar (see the tab bar at the top of the page).

In two weeks we're having a get together up near Leesburg around a Halloween Fest one of our members sponsors. There's a cross state over-night ride out in November. In February, there's a larger get together down in the state centralized Avon Park area led by a member V65infla. Also, I'm working on a trip down to the Everglades, and maybe the Keys, December maybe. Anyway, check the calendar and if you want to get away for a couple days, I'm sure everyone would be glad to have you on one (or all) of these trips. Think about going to the Halloween Fest.

Man what wasn't wrong with my bike. My 2nd gear went out. Replaced my Shift shaft (broke in half) 2nd, 5th drive and driven gears, shift drum, shift forks,  clutch, water pump, oil pump, and rear break cylinder. Replaced my Fuel pump cause that went out too. Rebuilt the carbs. Kept having running issues, had 75PSI compression all the way across on all 4 cylinders. Needless to say got new piston rings, head gasket and head job. Replaced Chain, Sprockets, tires. Integrated the tail lights so they would blink and not have dorky ones that hang out the side of my bike. I worked on it for 8 months because i was an idiot and when i went to do the transmission, I did not rebuild the top end while i was in there so i had the motor in and out of the bike about 5 times.....

Im sure there is more that i did to it but thats all i can think of off the top of my head.
Now, my next project will be painting the fairings. Bosses son dropped it when he took it for a spin. Not too bad but enough to drive me nuts and want to get it all fixed up.

Needless to say im not mechanically inclined at all ::WINK::

I am a Yamaha Technician working on my masters for Outboard motors but i like to tinker with pretty much anything except cars.

Wow! Holy crap! That's a lot of fixin'. When I read the intro I guess I assumed it was at a dealer or bike shop somewhere. It's good you're a technician since it would have been in most shops for twice that long with all that much work...lol!

I just bought one of Yamaha's new Adventure Touring bikes...XTZ12 Super Tenere. Having sold a Harley to move into adventure touring, guess I'm a fucking sell out too.  Smiley Although my Harley was a standard, not a cruiser. So far, so good...done a couple long trips, including 1,200 miles in two days last weekend. Attacked some gravel surfaces...okay. Tried some sand...uh,  Sad. Anyway, I've had more Yamahas over the years (mostly dirt bikes) than other brands and always had great luck with them, so when the Tenere came to the U.S. I got on the pdp list.

Anyway, hope that everything stays straight on the RF and you can join us on some rides.

WTF Matt??

John, I'll have to ask you to forgive him maybe he was having a bad moment or something??  I have met Matt and he is nice young man (Maybe "Young" might be the operative word here).  He has bought into the entire HD image wannabe pirate thing.  I really like Matt and enjoyed talking with him and hope to meet him again and ride with him.  However, in the interest of full disclosure I have also enjoyed busting his chop's on an occasion for two about his HD leanings.

I personally love all motorcycle's, yes even HD's.  But I HATE the typical (Not everyone has it) HD attitude.  dt rode a Harley when we first met and he was more than welcomed into hour V4 Honda group rides.

As I said I don't personally have a problem with HD's.  I just think you should be able to get Power,Comfort and Reliability for less than the cost of a college education.

Matt, your a nice young man.  Good natured ribbing is one thing but you took it way too far and should apologize in my not so humble opinion.

If you can make it out to the Windy Acres Halloween bash you will find that HD's out number our "Jap Crap" probably by 80% or better.  When I stayed there during the Leesburg Bikefest not one negative comment was made.  Of course our host and member Don (dongalb) also rides "Jap Crap".   Grin

I would love to have HD, or thought I would.  My Yamaha came along at the right price at the right time.  I am getting very used to the quiet, smooth ride though!  Smiley

Hey man its all good i understand that one all too well. I left my facebook open yesterday and the service manager wrote:
"Im sure most of you already figured it out. But here goes. It's time for me to come out of the closet. I'm gay."
Try explaining that your not gay to your mother when she calls you all shocked and you dont even know what is going on lol.

On the other hand, was not trying to get my panties in a wad just was thinking wow really man you don't even know me. I do miss the sound of screaming eagle pipes though!!!
