Mine was a 1980 Honda CM200T Twinstar. I bought it for $100 in 2000 and the engine was seized. When I finally got it running so much smoke filled the garage it looked like the house was on fire! That bike was quite an initiation into riding as I experienced a rear flat while doing 50mph, and the headlight went out on it when I was 10 miles from home. It's scary riding a bike a night with no light, let me tell ya. The shifter also fell off while going down US 41. I found it but had to ride home in 2 gear.
I eventually put some huge upswept pipes on it with a 3 ft sissy bar. I can't find a picture of it all pimped out though, dang! I sold it for $600 about 6 months later. I took my license test on this thing and it was a breeze. I laughed at the guys on the full fairing sport bikes who couldn't do the cone weave.

Mine was a 1971 Yamaha 200cc twin street bike. I was 15 years old so I put a Trials tire on the back and rode it off road. It was a 2 stroke with no baffles, everyone knew I was riding that day.

In 1978 I was 15 and I bought a 1963 Ducati 48 Sport for 2,500 pesetas in Spain. This came out to roughly US$20, which at the time was about 30-40 hours of work-pay(!). The 3-speed shifter was @ my left hand, like old Vespas. It didn't run but I'd worked on my best friend's 48-Sport & learned plenty. I walked mine home for 2 hours & had it running in 2 weeks. After boring it out to 65cc and painting it black I put about 4000 miles on it in 4 years before I returned to the U.S. without it.

Wow, that's a unique bike. I've never heard of one before. What a great story. What would one be worth today?

My first bike was a Bridgestone. It was a 98cc two stroke. Oil injection and rotary valve. This bike would go seventy mph! My parents had a marina up north and we sold Bridgestone and BSA motorcycles in the 60's. Along with Evenrude, Johnson and Murcury outboard motors and boats. Also had a Bridgestone racer, also 98cc, but had tuned exhaust. Most likely the first expantion chamber exhaust system ever! Also was geared lower for offroad riding. Here's a link to a Bridgestone lovers site. http://www.bridgestonemotorcycle.com/ I was in my early teens back then, so no I didn't get to ride the BSA's. My legs were too short!

Cool. I didn't know they made bikes, I thought they only made tires. I guess you live and learn.

I finally found the photos of my first ride, a 1974 CB550. It was a total non-running basket case when I bought it. I dragged it home in the back of my van. I didn't know how to ride anyway so I had some time to rebuild it. Countless hours went into this bike and I rode it for four years. These pictures were taken the day I sold it. Somebody from Pittsburgh drove all the way to Chicago to buy it from me. What a great first bike. In the second picture you can see the Goldwing I bought to replace it. The Wing didn't run when I bought it either (I gotta stop doing that). The Wing doesn't look much like that anymore. I'll post current pictures in the gallery of the Wing after her face lift. PS When I was writing this I remembered that for one summer back in college I owned an 1980-something 50CC Yamaha scooter called a "Razz". I can't believe I am admitting to that. I guess that was in fact my first bike. Ugh! Don't hold that against me, ok guys?

I also owned a '78 CB550 at the same time as Bagobones. It was my second bike. I bought it from a later convicted 1st degree murderer Jason Funk who killed an insurance agent during all the hurricanes awhile back. He is now serving a life sentence in prison. But that's another story!
They are a good solid bike, just with no thrills unfortunately. I sill want to strip a Goldwing down and make a cafe racer out of one someday. Lets see those latest photos bag, he went flat black for one mean ass looking Goldwing. I don't think you'll find him at McDonalds on Sunday with the local Goldwing club.

I don't have any pics as it was a long time ago. My first bike was a 1974 Suzuki 380. It was a 2 stroke 3 cylinder bike. My wife and I rode it all over the place even down to Key West from Lake City. It was fun to ride but it was a 2 stroke and sounded funny.

My first bike I bought myself was a Suzuki GT250 2 stroke. Can't find any pictures of it. Prior to that I learned to ride on this monstrosity my dad brought home that you had to pedal like a bicycle to start. It had a top speed of about 30mph and was a tank but it helped. This post brought back a lot of memories.

That's intriguing. If not a moped (those certainly weren't tanks) some of the real old vintage clunkers had pedals. Maybe you leaned to ride on a Flying Merkel. That would be cool!

Is the "fli" part related to airplanes or just going real fast on motorcycles?
