You should ask "What can we do to ensure our Right's" Then  worry about who's wearing a lid !!

You ask/worry about what you want and I will do the same. I didn't mention anything about changing the laws. I just asked a simple question. If you don't want to wear a helmet, all I can say is good luck. I don't enjoy my tax dollars going to keep some vegtable alive on life support, because they had no insurance and choose not to wear a helmet. I have a friend who's sister was on a toy run at Christmas. They were on I95 going like 25-30MPH. She was on the back of a bike. Everyone checked up and when the driver hit the brakes, they hit some oil or something slippery. Well, they went down and she hit her heads on the pavement. She was in a coma for 15 days. This was 5 years ago, she still isn't right today. If she had a helmet on she would have just stood up and brushed her self off. My point being anything can happen at any time, so you need to be prepared.

Let those who ride decide. I believe in less Government making laws that dictate to me what I can and can not do. The helmet laws are just one of them.

People talk about the tax dollars paying for long term health care for someone who was injured because of not wearing a helmet. Thats not even a single drop in the bucket of where our tax dollars are going.

I ride with a helmet 99.9% of the time, but I want to make the choice.

I do and don't. Mostly don't in the summer and do in the winter. But its only a skull cap so not really a DOT approved helmet. My life, my choice.

Almost always wear a full face. On short runs to the store or for lunch, sometimes I don't but I feel really uneasy when I don't put it on. I get some flak for wearing gear, but I want to survive an off so I ignore them mostly.

I support two young kids, a stay-home mom, and seven employees. For me, not wearing a helmet all the time would simply be irresponsible.

As a business owner, I’ve been closely following the President’s healthcare reform initiatives. Somewhere along the way, a bikers’ advocacy group ran some ads comparing the reforms to Canada’s nationalized health care program. I don’t think “nationalization” is exactly what’s being proposed, but apparently certain provinces require helmets and have enacted other motorcycle laws (i.e. gear and whatnot) as a result of their program, with an eye toward reducing healthcare costs that the gov would otherwise have to pay for. Food for thought.

I always wear the helmet. That would be my choice even if it wasn't required by law here in Georgia. I don't always wear the jacket but always have the helmet and gloves on.
I also wear my seat belt when in my truck or a car and was doing that almost 30 years ago.
Those would be my choices even if they weren't required by law.

This article was in TBO.com today…

“WASHINGTON - Federal safety officials called on states to require all motorcycle riders to wear helmets, citing a surge in fatalities since the late 1990s.” Complete Article.

The National Highway Designation Act of 1995, signed by then President Clinton, prevented the Federal Government from penalizing states for not requiring motorcyclists to wear helmets. It appears that they’re back…

99.9% of the time. When I am pulling the bike in or out of the garage or around the parking lot, I don't bother putting on the helmet.

Unless you live in a cave, have no family, friends or a job and have no interaction with mankind in your daily life it is simply a selfish act not too wear a helmet.  The old argument that it is your life and only affects you is backwards hillbilly thinking and no offense to hillbilly's intended.

In high school we were asked to give a speech arguing a cause and I chose to argue for helmet laws.  The premise of the speech was simple.  A 16 year old girl gets her drivers license and she is excited as any teenager getting to drive for the first time.  There is an accident at an intersection.  You t-bone the front end of her car and fly over the hood and crack your head and die.  Forget about the obvious argument of its your life and your families life was just ruined.  Wonder what happen's to that 16 year old girl??  The years of counseling, the trauma of witnessing you cracking your head??  Maybe her life is changed forever because of YOUR choice.  Who knows if you would have lived or not with a helmet but I do know even if you do die, you just spared her the possibility of watching your brain hit the pavement.

I have seen a lot of death in my life.  Those images never leave your memory.

I don't see this as an argument about your right to do something or not do something.  This
is a simple fact proved situation, just like seat belts they save more lives.  To not wear a helmet at all is simply a selfish act and you are telling your family, your friends and your co-workers that you don't give shit if you make their lives worse because you wanted the choice.

I have already made this post long enough but one final story.  I know of a man that had a very successful small business.  He had worked long and hard and was finally enjoying the fruits of his labor.  He was semi-retired, had all the toy's, traveled frequently and had a beautiful 22 year old daughter. (My buddy was dating the daughter) He had the big expensive Harley and a nightly week out with the boys that consisted of a ride somewhere to a local bar a few beers, some laughs and home.  And, of course he didn't wear a helmet, it was his choice.  The city had recently added some traffic circles to intersections in his neighborhood.  He had apparently forgotten about them as they were pretty new.  While I don't believe he was legally drunk, I have no doubt his mood was elevated from a few drinks, he might have been caught up in the nice evening and thinking about what he had to do the next day as he was only a few blocks from home.  You can guess the rest of the story.  He hit one of those new traffic circles and did not make it home.  His daughter will never get to be walked down the isle by her Daddy.  She will never get to hand him his grandchild to hold.  She was robbed of those normal life's experiences all because her father wanted to decide.  Yep, selfish..........

I have been lucky enough not to lose a friend to a bike accident. So my feeling aren't so strong on helmets or not. For me it's a simple matter of anything over 45 mph sucks without a helmet. I don't like that strong a wind blowing in my face. Maybe cause I don't have a good set of goggles, maybe cause I am just not use to it. But really I am actually more comfortable riding with my full helmet.

Sure when I am riding A1A or somewhere like Duval street at a slow speed it's nice to take it off, but 99.9% of the time I wear it.

I can't even imagine not wearing boots to ride. I hate stumping a toe or getting my feet injured in any way, even minor.

I really wish the temps were cooler all year. I would probably wear full gear all the time. Now some days it's just too hot to wear the textile jacket and pants.
