 Man, that horn looks SWEET! That is one seamless installation, bro! That horn is made by Chicago tools. Just so you know, we here in Chicago still use those horns on our 1920's gangster cars. A-ratta-tat-tat!

I mentioned I got into that bad rain that came through late Tuesday. The next morning I noticed that some of the textured material (looks like carbon fiber) on the tail bag bubbled and rippled. You can see the bubbles, but it's rippled all over. I pointed to a few. The other thing is that neither the tail or tank bags are waterproof, so everything got wet. That's just simply bullshit.   _______________ |

That sucks. Is that a Harley bag?
I use Cortech bags that are nylon. They come with rain booties that you can put over them, but I've never used them. The bags are 3 years old now and still look pretty good.

Yeah, it's a genuine Harley bag. I don't understand why these bags (sounds like yours too) aren't water repellant. Certainly riders are going to catch a little rain now and then. I wonder if a little Scotch guard might help.

I picked up a new Nelson Rigg Tank Bag for the bike. I haven’t been totally happy with the HD bag; tail bag is good, except for the bubbling. The Nelson Rigg isn’t a big clunky looking thing, like the HD bag, and it’s still 495ci, compared to 555ci for the HD. It’s not waterproof but has a cover. Most important, the map cover is perfectly clear, which would be a reason alone to keep it.
Because of the plastic tank, I’m limited to what I can get, but this deal was only $45 ($53 with shipping). What do you think, keeper or send it back? First photo is the Nelson Rigg; second is the current bag.

I have a Nelson Rigg tank bag. It has expandable side pockets as well as an expandable main compartment with a nice snap-off clear map pocket. In addition,it also has a rain cover that fits over the whole thing. It wasn't cheap, but I love that thing! The "tank" on my Wing is fiberglass, but the top compartment cover is metal, so the magnets stick to the top at least...It was worth the $$. I don't much trust anything that says Harley on it. The HD-specific stuff seems to be over priced just because it has the shield on it. I will bet that Nelson Rigg bag will outlast the HD stuff. I have spoken.  |

I’d say that genuine HD stuff is priced at a factor of twoX compared to other sources. It’s all quality stuff, but there’s good, if not equal quality stuff elsewhere. For example, I have two rain suits, but wanted a high-vis gort-tex jacket for the street. HD -- $115; Motoboss (Cycle Gear’s Brand) $60. HD armored mesh jacket -- $215; my Frank Thomas jacket -- $90. Most recently I needed some thick cold weather gloves . I got AlpineStars -- $40; I just checked HD online for a comparable -- $110! I intend to keep the HD tank bag because it is bigger and I'll eventually need that extra room when I hit the road on some long-range trips, which I intend to do. But for the day tripping I do now, can't beat the price and quality of that smaller Nelson Rigg bag. _______________________ |

The Harley bag definitely looks like it belongs on there and was made for the bike (even if it wasn't.)
What's a little wear? It just shows the bikes been ridden and not a garage queen.

The tail bag took the water damage, but it's still a keeper. I get more stuff in that thing than it looks like it would hold. ______________________ |

Just about a month. Called today and they said they custom make every seat (all models, not just mine) and they got a ton of orders for this one when they offered it. I’m not surprised. It should be shipped next week. |

I got the Corbin this week and put it on this morning. It slipped on pretty easily, with a new front bracket that came with the seat. It raised the seat level an inch. I bombed around for an hour or so to see how it felt and it's not too bad. I think it needs some break in and I'll certainly have a better sense on a longer ride.  |

The seat's breaking in nice. I can see how some might think they're too hard and too tall at first and freak out. Either way, it's a whole different ride now because the Corbin is level with kind of a tongue in front, where the stock was flat and sloped down toward the tank. I've always said the XR rides like a dirt bike and the Corbin makes it moreso. Hopefully a full thumbs up is in order after this coming weekend's trip.
