I have a '09 Tri-Glide Ultra Classic that has the 103 inch engine, I have had put ion by the dealer the street leagal Stage 1 kit, (air cleaner, Screaming Eagle pipes and download). What I am thinking about doing is taking the baffles out of the pipes as what I have is just not load enough. I have heard that if you do anything to the pipes you need to have a download done to the ECM. Does anybody know anything about this and pros and cons.

Thanks and be safe

I don’t have any experience on the specifc question related to the module, but I went surfing around the V-Twin Forum today, where I’m also a subscriber, when I got some breaks.

It seems to me in reading the various posts that most guys looking for some extra sound look to changing out the baffles (including in Screaming Eagle Pipes) with some specific aftermarket brands, rather than pulling the baffles altogether. Apparently, the performance problems that accompany the loss of backpressure absent baffles is their biggest issue and the aftermarket baffles provide what they're looking for without having to get a whole set of pipes or, as you're thinking about doing, pulling the baffles altogether.

It appeared that Big City Thunder baffles were a favorite.

Sorry I couldn’t be of any help on the module download. I’m sure someone on this board has your answer once they get logged on.

I put NOS "old style" Screamin' Eagle mufflers on my Sportster. "Old style" meaning it was before HD changed them to be quieter a few years back (because of EPA restrictions.) So I am happy with them.

Taking the baffles out basically makes them drag pipes. They will give you a little more power WOT (after a rejet or a new FI map), but the torque curve gets a little wacky in the rest of the RPM range so driveability on the street isn't optimal. But, you can try it. And yes, you'll have to program a new FI map or the bike will run lean.

mrbones, that is just what I was thinking. As of right now I am just going to leave it alone. I paid way to much money and also have the extended warranty to mess it up this early in the game. Only have 2000 miles on it now and don't want any problems.

In case anyone's interested Nightrider.com has alot of good information on HD Fuel Injection.  Not promoting anything, just good reading, as I am still debating on what to do with my Dyna.

That site has a lot of good technical information on Harleys. Thanks for the link.

Bones…interesting….they sponsor a forum for technical discussion inside their website.
