i have found, on craigslist, someone selling a 1974 HD sportster ironhead. bike is in boxes, but everything appears to be there. tank and fenders have fresh paint and the 1100cc motor has been rebuilt. new clutch, etc etc. boxes of parts, you know how it goes. they do not have the title but they do have the registration and info for the last owner (i could always llok up the PO and get a bill of sale)

My question is, how much do you think its worth? They are asking for offers to be made and, knowing nothing about harleys.... i dont know what to offer.. any suggestions?

$500 or less. Getting a title will cost about $300 more. A bill of sale will be useless without a title in Florida. You'll have to use a title service.

Old Sportsters are worth the least when it comes to HD, even though I like them the best. That bike restored won't be worth more than $3000 on a good day in a good economy. So keep that in mind. I love my '98 Sportster, but it is very different from a '74 mechanically.

On that title cost, if the PO simply lost the title, it might be a $30 replacement cost if the PO were willing to file for replacement of a lost title. To see if a title is on file, you can post the VIN in the link below. If it's not on file, then it's the $300 title shops.

I'm on my 15th Harley & have been thru some weird deals...bottom line, take the whole Bike to the SHERIFF (If the Seller refuses to let you take it there...DON'T BUY IT) & let them run the Number's..."1 WRONG NUMBER & THEY WILL KEEP THE BIKE & HE COULD DO TIME" Don't take a chance, it isn't worth it!
Good luck..."SKULL"
