Anybody know much about these? I got a guy offering to trade a v30 Magna with 30K miles for my cb450sc nighthawk. My bike is an awesome commuter, but lacks the oomph for highway cruising above 65mph. any thoughts?

I was looking at 500cc V30 Interceptors lately. They use the same motor. The HP was in the upper 60's. It's a fantastic little engine, but V-4's from that era suffer from cam oiling issues. Some say the V30 didn't have them, but I found a few cases when people had to replace the cams because they were worn out. There's 4 of them so its a pricey job. If the mileage is low and the maintenance was kept up on the bike, I'd go for it.

From a performance standpoint, the V30 is much better. If you want a more reliable bike, stick with the Nighthawk.

Thanks for the quick reply mrbones. I'm gonna meet the guy later this week, just waiting on a call or email to set it up. I'd like to see if it's well taken care of and solid, if not trade will prob not go through for reasons you mentioned, and I have put some effort into getting mine to where it is.

In an odd turn of events though I got an email this morning from another guy willing to consider a trade. This guy has an 83 cb650sc nighthawk with 11K miles and might be willing to trade. I'm a little more familiar with these and their issues.
