I normaly go to VTXOA. Its a site for VTX and pretty much covers the US. But, the more places you belong to the more things you can find to do, ride and stuff. Any way glad to be here. I'm knologyable on VTX's and most of the mods. I have done all mine an if any one needs info or help drop me a line, would be glad to lend a hand. I have done a few more thing to her, just have not taken more pics yet, Smitty

Thanks, not a lot going on in here. Figured their would be more with it being St. Pete, with all the bikers we have. Smitty

Yup. That would be an accurate assessment imho, too.

I’m just a regular subscriber here, but…

…I’m kind of struck by the fact that BF has 178 members, but only 1 said welcome to Bad-X. Granted, that’s not always the case, but it is more often than not.

I view BF as a purely local forum; I believe that’s the intent. I’m subscribed to the unique forums for my bikes (e.g. XR Owners) and interests (e.g. Adventure Rider); international forums. When I introduced myself there, I got a dozens of hellos. But the fact is, it was a long time before I really engaged in either the welcomes or other activities of those forums; as expected of a newbie.

Perhaps the success of a local forum is a little dependent on dispensing with forum-decorum that presumably relegates newbies to sit back and watch/learn/whatever, like they’d do on the big boards. Perhaps what the big boards call newbie-bs posts aren’t really all that bad on a local forum. Perhaps on a local forum, a newbie could say “hello” or “welcome” to a new subscriber and ask a Q or two.

Again, BF has 178 members; all but 3 are newbies. If newbies don’t post/participate…ain’t much that’s going to go on. Starts, maybe with a paradigm shift for a local board by saying hello when people join whether ya got 3 or 3,000 posts.

Just sayin’  confused4

dt2mx,
How long before someone is no longer a newbie?? Is it based on length of time or number of posts or what?? Just wondering.
I can see your point that most newbies feel they should sit back and not say anything cause I have been kinda that way but I will try to do better.

Smitty,
I just got around to this thread but I say welcome also. icon_salut

I actually don’t know. Bones will probably chime in on that.

I’m glad you understood what I was saying. Not being critical, just saying we shouldn’t have to follow the big board rules imo. I regret the inference that this site is just for “physical” locals. It’s certainly not.

Welcome to the site BAD-X.

The member groups are like this:

Newbie           *        0
Jr. Member          **      50
Full Member      ***     100
Sr. Member       ****      250
Hero Member    *****      500

You need 50 posts to not be a newbie. I wouldn't mind changing that to something lower (maybe 20?). I also always wanted to change the group names to something more clever but haven't come up with anything. Any ideas?

I need to get busy and post some more to move up to Jr. Member.  Cool

Thanks for explanation on the status.

I can't think of any clever group names at the moment either but if I come up with something I will share those with you.

Hay guy's ! I do undersatnd the greating an all the posting crap. Like I said before I belong to VTXOA and am one of the longest members, and am a slug some times. Just get over reading all the posting everyday and keeping up . I work as I'm sure you do all day. And if I'm not worn out, I want a beer a ride or both. Not to get on the fourm. So thanke for the welcome. Do any of you do Biff's or Grass Flats ? I dont do Quaker Steak, over rated, over priced and food is just ok.  Be safe, Smitty

Where's Biff's and Grassflats? Never been there.

When I go to Quakersteak, I eat before I go. I always thought the food is good, but I'm impatient when it comes to waiting for food. The last time I went I grabbed Checkers on the way and ate it in the parking lot.

Biffs is on 49 st just north of 38 ave n on the east side. Grass Flats is just south of Ulmerton rd on the west side. Biffs has a bike night as well as Grass Flats on Weds. nite. Grass flats also has one on Friday and Biff's has one on Sat too.

I am a newbie here as well as a newbie rider.  I would love to do a bike run, but have no idea what to expect.  First, How many miles is the St Pete's run? secondly are there pre-arranged fueling station if needed?  Ill also need to know if there is parking so I can trailer my bike there.  Ill be comming from Lehigh Acres, and not sure if Im ready to ride up there, do the run, spend some time and then ride back.  Sounds awsome, but seems like a long day for a newbie. If anyone could give me some more info, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks

Are you referring to Jim’s Toy Run in St. Pete? That’s this Sunday starting at 10AM; registration starts at 7AM. My company is one of the sponsors of the run this year. Here’s a link to some of the information, but you could call Jim’s and ask about the parking and whatnot.

Seems like a long haul from Ft. Myers area. Maybe the local H-D dealer in that area does something similar.

To be totaly honest ! If you are at all unsure if your motorcycle and youself, and not at ease with it all, you should not ride this ride. They have this every year and their is always next year. You sound like your very new at this. You have to keep in mind that their will be about 2000 bikes. This is not a 'I just started to ride run' ! Don't get me wrong, I'm not being an ass. I would not want you or some one else get hurt. But its all about your skill level, if I'm missing something in what you wrote, let me know, Smitty

This was the thread we were talking about the thread levels in, but didn't come up with anything.

I was noticing that over on Adventure Rider, they just call it the Odometer, except they spelled it Oddometer. Wonder if that means something special.  Grin

I am new to the forum and thinking of buying a VTX. Hoping you can give me some advice on this model. I plan on buying a used one and wanted to know if there are any model years I should stay away from? My understanding is there are 3 diff models for each year? Can you tell me the diffrence in the lettering? I have found several 03 and 04 models priced around 4500 with around 15k miles on them. Also what should I look for when looking them over for purchase?  My history with bikes is a short one....last Feb I bought my first bike which was a 01 Intruder 800. Since then I purchased an 01 Shadow 1100. Looking to get a VTX and keep it. Thank you for any info.
