I just snagged a set of 41mm forks in wide glide trees. The guy I got them from said they were from a '79. I know there is no such thing as a '79 wide glide. The brake mounting lugs on the left fork are spaced 2.75" center to center. Anyone know what years brake caliper fits these things?

I beg to differ...I just traded my 98' Softail for a 79' SHOVELHEAD "FATBOB" WIDEGLIDE & it was ONLY made for 1 Year! My Fork's ARE 41 mm WIDEGLIDE Fork's...the tripple Tree's on it now are Billette but I have the Stock Tripple tree's & they will be on soon!   "SKULL"

As it turns out the guy I bought them from was full of it. The forks are from a 2000 up. the brake mounting lugs are late model.

Not to argue with you skull but Harley says they came out with the Fatbob in 1979 but the Wide glide wasn't introduced until 1980. Of course your could have been made in 1979 mated to 1980 forks.

1979   Introduction of the FXEF Fat Bob, "Fat" because of the dual gas tanks, "Bob" for the bobbed fenders.

1980   The FXWG Wide Glide is introduced for the 1980 model year.

That's good then. The 2000+ calipers are much better. I retrofitted one to my '98 Sportster with an adapter bracket.
