Hi everybody
There is new used bike dealership opening in the Miami area - it is going to be a large one (i know because I manage it). I am new to the area and the business here might be different from what I know.

Please, review our website and i would like to ask you a some questions on the topic. We'll carry used motorcycles and ATV (link in my signature).

I hope this is the right place for the topic as I could not find any other that matches better.

So what I would like to ask:
1. what info about a bike would you like a dealer to place on the website, I mean in the details page - what's important for you and what's not. I see many ads with phrase like 'low miles, best deal, priced to sell", etc. does this really matter?
2. will it be good to describe all the installed goodies in words or pictures will be enough?
3. what would be your requirements to a used unit - what is the acceptable wear for a sportbike for example? This question is not about the technical condition - they should be trouble-free by default. Mostly the looks: scratches, wheel dents, etc. - these plastic monster are the ones that fall often...

THE KEY QUESTION:
4. What would you prefer - to pay dealer fee and buy a serviced bike or not to pay any fees and service it yourself or pay small money for it to be serviced by our mechanics?

I see that all dealers in the area have dealer fees, and they sometimes amount to 400 bucks. I hate to pay more that an advertised price and we will have no dealer fee until the end of the year. But as a businessman I understand that margins do not allow me to have them all serviced for free, because there are also other things like changing tires, batteries, etc.

Please, give you feedback.
And also about the website: easy to use/difficult to find info - that kind of things

Hello p2rpower. Welcome!

I’ll take a peek at the website later. Although he never seems to mention it, our admin is a computer and Internet Wiz! Handles my company’s website and Internet programs and all that stuff. I’m sure he and other members will have some good thoughts for you. Again, welcome.  Smiley

Hey welcome to the site.Isn't there a bike shop down the street from you guys or next door?
I know someone in that area that has a used bike shop in that area.As far as the atv's go,I wish there was a place
to ride close by so I don't know how your sales are going to be.Now for the crotch rockets that would be your best
sales. The website looks good but I didn't have much time to look around.Do you guys do bike shows? There was one I attended
last night at the casino in Hallandale.

There is a car customising shop, they call them selves I95 motorsports - very misleading in my opinion as they have nothing to do with motorsports. ATV is my major concern: we export them, so I have to have them in the inventory, but locally there are no riders...
We have not yet done any shows - got our first inventory about three weeks ago and still working with starting them up, fixing, etc. - you know that when somebody sells a bike they sell them in the worst possible shape, because they have already decided to dump them. So we are the ones to make them shine again.

what do you think about question 4 - this thing really bothers me, because basically dealer fee is a scam in my opinion, but if everybody does that we might have to do this, too.

I don’t buy used motorcycles from dealers, but the new ones typically include an assembly fee and some type of an admin fee. IMO there’s only one number that matters…the OTD price. The only thing I ask up front is what comprises the OTD so I have all the information to negotiate. If dealers are putting service fees on top of used bike sale prices, I’d probably think the higher used retail values (over private sale prices) already took that into consideration. Again though, at the end of the day I’d probably think used bikes have an OTD price too and if the dealer was open and honest up front, I wouldn’t consider it a scam...I'd just take it into consideration when I negotiate a price, if that was even necessary.

Going back to the quote ^, it seems to me that what “everyone else does” may present an opportunity to differentiate your business from all their businesses with a little added creativity.

Dealer fees stink, all the matters is the bottom line, OTD price.

Hi, guys! We got some progress with what we do and how we do that.
So we followed your advice - there will be no dealer fees at all.
We deliver clean title, clean condition, clean history, clean odometer statement bikes to the market at prices you would expect from a private seller.
Furthermore, we offer our customers reliable information about our bikes. If there is a scratch or a dent you will know it before you've come to us just ask over the phone or email. Additional unit pictures can be provided on demand for out of state buyers.
Currently we have inventory of all recent models of Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki, select models of Triumph, Ducati and BMW, will extend to Harleys in 2011.

Thank you for the guidance. I know that your opinions will drive me the right way.
