I don't know how riders in states that get Winter actually do it. These few days of non-stop rain we've been getting are driving me nuts since I can't ride.

Before I'm accused of being a wimp, I have been caught in the rain, and have ridden home from work in a pouring rainstorm before. But given a choice, If it's raining, I'd rather be in a car.

Seems like every time I have to leave for work, or I'm going to try to go out and get a ride in, the skies open up! The bike actually has a pretty nice coat of dust on it now. DUST!

I'm working from home today and was actually going to go out in a few and try to get a quick ride in over lunch. And guess what it just started doing? Ugh.

I guess I'm going to have to settle for going out and dusting the bike instead!

(End of rant)

Well, there you go. Not quite sure how well that would hold up above about 5mph, though!

I was heading home from eating supper Sunday night (about 9:00, we sat there too long running our mouth) and it wasn't looking good out. There was thunder and some lightning in the area but since the lightning was in the opposite direction I was going I decided not to put the rain gear on. Well I got a couple of blocks away from the restaurant and it started sprinkling rain and when I looked further down the road, it was flat coming down. Luckily there was a tire business right there and a nice sheltered area in front. I pulled in and put the rain gear (it ain't that great but better than nothing) on just in time. I'm surprised the cop that rode by while I was under that sheltered area didn't pull in and give me a hard time for being where I shouldn't have been. Anyway I made it on to the house no problem except the rain pants leak and the seat of my jeans were wet when I got there. I have got to break down and get a good pair of rain pants, rain jacket, boot covers, waterproof gloves, basically the whole 9 yards on rain gear...

So NO I don't like riding in the rain either..............

What are some suggestions any of you have on rain gear?? ?? I prefer something that is at least partially hi viz.

Also important d, what gear do you have? I was eying some gear on JCWhitney (in the "it's better than nothing" category) and don't want to buy it if it sucks.

Croz, I don't know anything about JCW gear offerings, but if you've got a Cycle Gear nearby, I've found their Motoboss line (that's their private line) to be pretty decent stuff at a lot cheaper than brand name stuff, plus they always have a bunch of sale racks. More important, you can try stuff on at Cycle Gear, and if they don't have something in the store that's on their website you can have whatever shipped to the store at no shipping cost. I once had them ship two sizes of a Frank Thomas textile pant just because I wasn't sure which waist size would fit. I did have to commit to buy one and pay for one pair though, for the record, but they had no problem doing that. I have the Motoboss Rain Guard Jacket in the high-vis yellow you're talking about. $30 and it's awesome. It may not breath as well as a $400 gor-tex rain coat, but it goes on and off easy and stays right in my saddle bag. Just something to think about because I haven't had a lot of luck with mail order apparel. Oh, and on rain gear specific, if it's over-gear like the linked rain coat, take your regular mc jacket because you want the rain coat to fit over it.
