At the risk of looking like a pot stirrer since I am a new poster.

We are thinking of riding in an event this weekend. From the event website:

Quote
Get on your Harley and ride from Palm Beach Harley (45th St and I-95) to the
Home Run Sports Bar & Grille (Lantana/Jog Road, Lake Worth). Tickets are $10
per rider to benefit Think Pink Rocks. Ride starts promptly at 2:15 pm and
live music from JCB Blues Band from 4-8 pm at Home Run Bar. Raffles, games,
prizes and more!

Is get on your Harley just a figure of speech or would an event like this actually be limited to Harleys?

Show up with $10 in your hand and I bet you could ride a scooter. But, seriously, I've never heard of an event like that be limited to any maker of bike.

I checked the website and that particular event isn’t a Harley (or HOG) event. In fact, the Harley shop in Palm Beach where they’re starting the ride is way down in the bronze sponsors from what I can see. It was probably an unfortunate generic use of “Harley” for all motorcycles by someone in the charity who doesn’t know any better. Harley branding at work!

Anyway...looks like a good charity though. I’ll bet you’ll find lots of different stuff around you when you get there. Enjoy!

That's what I am thinking. It's listed on other sites and doesn't have that same wording.

Like Mr. Bones says I bet if I show up with $10 they don't care what I ride.

I ride several of these events every year. Not once, ever, have I been really hassled for not riding a Harley. Nobody really cares - especially at charity rides.

The only time in my life I ever saw somebody get any grief over not riding a Harley was when Bones and I were at a campground and we took some slack for one of us riding there on a Suzuki SV650. Our other ride was Bones' black Sporty, which this ancient drunk redneck called a chick bike- of course. What a douche.

The only time I run into those comments is on other Internet forums. I guess it’s easy to spew off crap like that anonymously on the web. The dude you ran into was a hick and drunk so he probably didn’t know what he was saying to begin with.

Kind of funny. Until about a year ago I did powerlifting meets for about 5 years. I read some of the internet forums. It was terrible. Lots of real asses. Like you say people were not really careful what they said to others because they were behind a key board. I always thought if this is the only exposure someone had to this sport how would they ever get new blood?

Going to meets was totally different. 99.99% of the guys were great guys and we always had a good time. I have developed some life long friends from the sport. I kind of figure biking to be the same way. Some good natured kidding but generally nobody really cares what you ride.

I would be a terrible guy to hate on other brands. Half the time I have to be close enough to read the emblem or logo to know what kind of bike it is.

We did this event. Turned out to be lots of fun and for a good cause. Weather was great. Not sure how many they were expecting but looked like a good turn out to me, around 100 bikes.

You guys were right. Nobody cares what you ride. Mostly harleys but a small mix of other bikes in there.

The only one that gave me a hard time about the Honda was a friend. He use to ride a honda before he got his harley. So the ribbing is only so effective.

I have made several friends going to events like this. These are guys I likely, otherwise, would never have hung out with at all. Those events can be fun - as long as they aren't "pub crawls". When too much beer gets involved, it's not so fun anymore.
