Hello,

I have been lurking here on and off for about two years now but haven't posted before.  Although, I am pretty active on the Honda V4 board.

I picked up an 82' V45 Sabre as a project/collector type of bike.  I am a Honda V4 nut and on a mission much to the wife's chagrin, to own as many of them as I can.  This one is #4   Grin  The bike belonged to a gentlemen whom passed away in MO.  His family brought the bike here and sold it to the guy I bought it from.  There are zero concern's of the bike being stolen.  The guy who sold it to me did many searches back to 1986 when the records stopped and never could find any record of this bike.  He even called American Honda who could not tell him which dealership the bike went to initially.  I attempted to pay for a VIN check on www.instavin.com tonight and they would not even take my money saying they could not find any records.

I wouldn't mind paying a title chase company but think it would be a waste of time since I can't even locate any record on this bike.  It is literally as this bike has never existed.  I believe I could still get in touch with the daughter of the original owner, since she is the wife of sellers boss, if I need too but since power of attorney stops with a death that wouldn't probably be any good at this point either.

Does any one have any suggestions or probably the easiest way, does any one have a titled 82' V45S frame I can purchase for a reasonable price?

Thank you,

Jamie

Hello Jamie and welcome! Sorry, it's usually a little slow on weekends, but keep posting. We have guys that work on bikes; iirc there are three build threads going on at the moment. I'm sure we'd all like to see some of your stuff.

On the frame, eBay is probably your best bet. However, there's an outfit over in St. Pete that buys unwanted motorcycles and either parts or sells the whole thing as parts bikes. I've been to their warehouse and they have a lot of bikes. I'm traveling at the moment but I'll lob up the number when I get back.

Mr. Bones is the expert in the title company arena. From what he's said in other similar cases, going to a title company may be easier. I'm sure he'll chime in when he's back from his weekend adventures.

If the frame has a VIN on it, just call ITS and see what they can do.

http://www.its-titles.com/

Through paperwork and a fee, they will buy it from you and sell it back to you from another state that doesn't require titles. You then take that paperwork to the DMV in Florida and get your Florida title.

You can also check out the VIN in these links and maybe it will turn up.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thank you for the responses and the links.  This bike has been searched to death and with no records appearing any where.  The people involved with all transactions to date are all involved with law enforcement and I was given copies of previous searches.   Grin

I have the information for ITS and other companies that perform such services.  I have some contacts that are car dealers and my partner is a former car dealer so I have them checking their resources for me.  I have found three frames, two of which will be over $400 shipped and I am waiting for a price on the third that I was told will be "Considerably cheaper".  Going with a new frame would make a frame up restoration a bit easier because I can start with the repairs and paint the frame then swap one part at a time, repairing or replacing as I go.  OTOH, the frame on this bike is one of the nicest things about it so I hate to chance getting one in worse condition.

I just emailed the DMV so let's see what they have to say??

The best thing I have in my favor is time.  I am in no hurry as my bike runs great so I have something to ride.   Grin  The V45 Magna is mostly done enough for the wife to start riding soon.  The V30 is a "Whenever I get to it" project and the only motivation to hurry this Sabre project is it will give me a spare for either the wife or me to ride when I tear down our bikes one at a time for a frame up on them.

I am not a "Pro" builder by any means, I usually hurt more than I help and what does get done right takes me three times longer than most people.  But, when I do get a chance to work on the bikes my wife call's it "Therapy" for me.   Wink

Here are some pic's of three of the bikes.  First is "The MAG", my V65.  Next up is the wife's V45, the day it came home and a pic of the final coat of paint put on the tank last weekend and finally this Sabre project the day it came home last week.

Thank you for that, I will post it over on the V4 site also.  I need a frame for the Sabre, not the Magna.  At four bikes in the garage I can't get another one just yet.  Bet I could get it running in a few hours though.......

An old thread for sure, but I am working on a deal to bring an 82' frame from PA with a clear title.

I found the number for the junkyard online & called them, they had no V4 stuff at all & mainly deal with atv's & dirt bikes so I did not get over there yet. I found the 2 sabres on craigslist, the funny thing is that the guy lives 1/4 mi from the other guy I bought my parts magna from last month & they don't know each other!!
