I am hoping being a Florida group you all can help me out and I will throw in an open invite while we are at it.

As I mentioned in my post about needing a frame or title solution for my 82 V45 Sabre project, I am active for five years now over at www.v4hondabbs.com, for riders of Honda's with V4 engines. (Same screen name)

In addition to a Spring Get Together in May of every year up at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle campground there are a few other meet ups through out the year in that group.  I have decided to host an annual FGT (Florida Get Together) in February, strongly looking at the weekend of the 18th this coming year.  Last year myself and two others met up in the Avon Park area and had a great day of riding.

Traditionally with these meet ups they are held at motorcycle friendly camp grounds that have cabin's available so attendees can have a choice to rent a cabin or tent it.  Hotel's don't tend to work well for these meets but will do in the absence of other choices.

So the question is, does anyone know of a campground that meets these requirements in the area of Sebring/Avon Park/Lake Placid or that general area??

In follow up, anyone from this group that would like to attend and ride with a bunch of V4 Honda guy's, are welcome.   Grin  So far I think I have some where near 10 from the other group, which means I'll have three or four.  Grin  The official dates will be the Thursday before the weekend we choose through that Sunday.  Come or go as you please.  Other than that, the usual rules apply and that is there are no rules, no schedules, nothing but riding, relaxing and usually once the bikes are parked for the night a little beer drinking.   Roll Eyes

Actually I take that back we do have a couple or rules. #1, We don't ever leave another rider behind, rather it be for an accident or the occasional conversation with Law Enforcement.  Shocked #2, At any turn in the route all bikes pull over and wait for the last rider in the group before continuing on.  This way people can feel comfortable to ride their own ride and not get caught up in riding over their head.

Sorry, I don’t know that area at all except for having bombed through there a couple times, but I’m always looking for a good long-haul destination with motorcycle doins on the other end. It’s a few months out, but if it’s open to others than in your club I’d probably like to attend. That assumes one of the rules you might have forgot isn’t “No Harleys allowed.”  Grin

I have only stayed in a couple of the campgrounds in the area. We usually go for more primitive cause we have a tent. So the ones I have been to are nice but don't really meet your requirements.

I do have an plan B you might want to consider. There are quite a few small resorts in the area. Many of them are old motels or groups of cabins on lakes. Most are nothing fancy. They rent to older retired couples for the winter and families on vacation in the summer. I have a vested interest in one. It's actually in Lake Placid a little south of sebring. This particular one has 19 units and plenty of outdoor area for a group BBQ, etc. It has a pool and is right on a lake. It's just one of many in the area.

This might actually be better then a camp ground. With the economy like it is most probably have vacancies and decent rates most of the year.

It might be a little harder to do it in the Sebring area in February. That area has quite a few snow birds come down for the winter. Many places do longer term rental for the winter season. If you are open to change the time of year fall would probably be best. Jan - April is high season for snow birds. June-July for family vacations. The other months might be an easier time to get a big block of rooms.

Just some ideas....

Lots of little roads and nice riding in that area.

We are actually leaving tomorrow afternoon to go up there for the weekend.

Absolutely, please come out and ride/hang.  We don't discriminate against any riders, its usually the other way around.   Grin

I appreciate the suggestion.  We have our annual large get together in May and offering up a gathering in February might entice some of our northern brethren to trek down for a break from the winter themselves.  I am not absolutely opposed to resort type situation depending on the particulars.  Only going on past experiences it works out nice to have both cabins and tents for those that want to go with a cheaper option.  The atmosphere of a campground tends to lend itself better for the purpose of socialization, typically around a camp fire. (Beer Drinking  Roll Eyes)  Although at every gathering we do have those that choose to go the route of hotel in the area also.

I know its is a busy time and one of the reason's we picked that weekend is there is big car and tractor show going on in that area so we thought that would give us options for one afternoon.  You can't hardly get me on a bike in the summer down here, let alone entice those northern boy's to come down and endure the heat.    Cool

All that being said, I wouldn't mind hearing about rates and availability if your resort has any that weekend.  I appreciate it.

I also should ad that we are not absolutely stuck on this area.  Just that we rode there this past February and enjoyed the roads and the people in the area, plus it is centrally located for our attendees that live in Florida.  If there are other suggestions of areas please let me know.

Yea, camp ground would be perfect for that type gathering. Sadly, the only one I have stayed at in Sebring is Highlands Hammock State Park. Nice camp ground, but NO BEER. Sad

I wasn't really pushing our resort, just the idea in general. Usually our resort is full of old people during Feb, so not really the best place.

In my opinion the area would be great. A friend of mine has taken us on some really nice rides in that area. Like I say we are going up there this weekend.

I would be interested in your gathering. Sounds fun.

Great, I hope you can make it.    icon_smile

Highlands Hammock is the only campground that I found in the area so far but could not find any information that said they had cabins.    Roll Eyes  If you would, do me a favor and maybe ask around a bit while you are there this weekend??  If someone had a large piece of land and bought up some of those FEMA trailers and opened a motorcycle only campground in that area, I think they would do ok, especially in the winter months.  I don't think it is a huge money maker if you had to buy the land and develop something but if you already had some land I think it would kick in some extra income.  I know we are spoiled from staying at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground in Caruso, NC.

Highlands Hammocks does not have any cabins. They have an area for RVs on one side and a primative area for tents on the other side of the park.

The people I know up there didn't know much about the camp grounds but they are going to see if they can find out.

Thank you, I would really appreciate it.  I need to get this planned soon as I know it will be crowded in February.  I guess worse come to worse we might just have to find the cheapest flea bag hotel we can for this year and then scout the area for next.   Roll Eyes

Another member from the v4 site sent me this link today.

http://reedsmotel.com/index.php

I spoke with the owner today and he had five double rooms available and three single.  There is a smaller Tiki hut to hang out, a pond and larger Tiki bar in the back.  They have a breakfast and coffee.  He will do Double rooms for $79 and single for $64 plus taxes of course.  I have it up for discussion on the other site now.  If you were interested in attending please weigh in.  As I said over there, I'll share a room but I snore.   Grin

Jamie...I'll commit to one of the singles. Sweet!  hello2

Heading out now into the Everglades. Haven't found anyone around here this morning who knows where that Loop is, but I'll try and find it.

I probably won't be back in touch until tomorrow afternoon or early evening now.

If Reeds motel is the one I am thinking of it's like a time warp to the 50s, but in a good way. Never been there but I think it's the one on the west side of the road right in Avon Park.

If that's it one of our favorite Mexican restaurants is just a few blocks away. Taquiera Merlo - it's a combination store and cafe. Great food.

May is a crazy month for me at work. We are pretty seasonal. I can't commit, but would love to come. We have a place we can stay in Lake Placid so that less then an hour away. Maybe we can make it up.

I have all 8 rooms tied up until Jan 7th for Feb 17 - 20.  Tax is 9% on top of the room rate.

Single - $69.76 a night
Double - 86.11 / 2 = 43.06 a night each.

As far as getting money in I will take your word over a time table on Money.  Just try to start getting it in as soon as you can, letting me know here what days you will be staying.  This has to be on a first come first served basis.

I have 2 singles tied up and at least 2 doubles with one needing a roommate.  This leaves 3 doubles and one single available.  I am waiting to see who responds before I decided which one I will be taking because it does not matter to me which one I do.

At this point, it would just be easier for you to mail me a check because I can just hold it.  If you want to pay for your room individually on a credit card, I will hand you your check back there or if you want to do it now, especially if you are in a single room, I will call the owner and release the room to you then you can call and take care of it over the phone.

Speak up here first and then either mail me your checks to.

Jamie Hyde
80 Cedar Circle
Boynton Beach, Fl. 33436

Or, make the necessary arrangements with me to pay the hotel directly yourself.

Being gone on your B-Day is one thing, I am scheduling it on the weekend we usually celebrate our anniversary.   Grin  It is the 14th but since that is always crazy with V-Day we tend to go out the weekend after more.   Roll Eyes  Not to mention that Ozzy is coming that weekend and I would like to see him once before he is on stage in a wheel chair.   Wink
