Hi, newbie from WA state.  What nice weather we have down here.  It's raining with a wind storm there, sucks...for them Smiley  I was wondering if there is any nice road for sportbikes here in Jax?

Welcome iRide. Glad you joined. What sportbike do you have?

I was wondering if there is any nice road for sportbikes here in Jax?

I ride up to Jax once in awhile, but I'm not sure about the twisty situation. Seemed like there were lots of cruisers at the events I went to up there...not a good sign. Also, I think there's a popular track just up into Georgia one of our members Zeus was telling me about. What you can't find on the roads, may you can make up on trackdays.

I have a 08cbr1k. I guess trackdays will do. There was a lot of nice mountain passes and back roads back in Washington. Others may object but nothing beats a nice and "relaxed" ride through some back roads and mountain passes, where you don't have to rail it or conform to a whole bunch of rules or regulations but still can lean as much as u want. I have heard about deals gap for such a long time, that would be my ultimate destination.

We've got a group ride up there in planning...for the Spring, of course. I haven't mentioned it yet because it's just in the planning stages, but stay tuned.

We've got lots of back roads, there just all straight.

As far as mountains, you do know that you now live in Flatistan, right?  Grin

Keep me in the loop on that if it happens. I'm always up for a return trip to "the gap". headbang

I will, and planned on letting everyone in on it. What I want to do is take over the Deals Gap Resort, but I'm kind of a layer down in the planning process, maybe more. We're having difficulty coming up with a date...worried about people traveling from the north. Being from the north, when would you say is the earliest you'd trek down.

The Gap. LOL! The Dragon's Tail is aright but it is the roads surrounding that area that are the true 'fun roads'! Oh wait...there is only the gap, there is only the gap, there is only........  Tongue

I lived up there for a while and I'll tell you what, it's squid heaven at the resort and on that stretch of 129. F*cking misery most weekends too. Everyone that thinks the can 'ride' goes balls to the wall and then bitches about the police presence...well, buddy, it's because of folks like YOU!  Roll Eyes Anyway, I've had too much coffee this morning, excuse my banter.

BTW, I'm interested in this trip y'all have in the works. Long as you don't mind a lady tagging along!  Grin

Being from up there, do you think the Deals Gap Resort itself is a bummer? If you had 20-25 people riding in from all over the place (no squids, so far  Wink ), would you be thinking about someplace else up there? It's about riding and if riding is a bummer in places, just a-soon avoid 'em. If so, ideas would be appreciated. Actually, any insight on the area would be appreciated. We've got some guys that have been there before that agreed to make up the loops, and I assume it'll be more than the Dragon. As of now, the Gap was picked because it's pretty central to the crew that's planning it...oh, and it's THE GAPGrin

No...don't mind. The question is, can you stand a bunch of 50+yo's.  Cheesy

Fontana Village Resort

http://www.fontanavillage.com/

My boyfriend and I stayed in one of the cabins a few years ago and had a FANTASTIC time. It is about a 7-15 minute ride (lol, depending how spirited you're feeling) to 'The Dragon's Tail'.

The beginning of The Foothills Parkway is about 20 minutes after the end of The Dragon. The FP is a fantastic ride, long sweepers that take you to the summit and a couple great lookout spots. What a joy to ride; I rode a friends Kawi Versys and once I got there and back once, I zipped back for one more run. Route 28 (Fontana Village Road) is a great little ride as well. Runs along a river through the hills and I will just say, the memory of chasing a girlfriend of mine down that road still brings a smile to my face! Grin

Those are just a couple of the hundreds of great loops up there. This was a way of life. Still is, of course, but I was doing the mountain run about 3-5 days a week.

Okay, I'm definitely in now.

Btw, most of the folks I ride/spend any sort of time with are in the 35+ age range. I'm usually the baby at 24, but I definitely mix in with that group better than folks my age.  Wink Hell, my man is 16 years my senior!

There are also MANY places to camp. I actually love to camp when on bike trips. That may be an option along the way.
