Toy run wreck.

Those big group rides look like fun, but stuff like this really scares me. You have no control of who you are riding with. We did one charity ride and it was fun, but sort of disorganized. It was a bit scary at times.

Any of you guys just refuse to do them because of the safety factor?

I was actually going to do that very run in the link, but a family commitment changed my plans.

That is def one consideration.  The other is the last one I was in over 15 years ago took over 2 hours to go 20 miles and it just beat's the hell out your bike, specifically the clutch.

I replied before I watched the vid.  That was the same run that I was at over 15 years ago.  My wife works in dispatch for the Sheriff's office down there and just told me the female is going to be ok but has head injuries from not wearing a helmet.   Roll Eyes

We were going to do the Cookson Toy Run on Sunday, on this side of the Bay. But we went down after that sudden rainstorm Sunday morning. Had to hand our toys off to friends while we got checked out.

I'm OK, wife's OK, and bike is scratched up, but OK. And the wife still wants to ride, which could have gone very differently after seeing her roll down the street at 30 mph. But she did a beautiful tuck and roll, and we were wearing full gear. I did 20 yards down the road with the 1100 on my left leg. My gear is beat up and ripped, but I'm just bruised.

I can post full details later if folks want all the dirt.

The Cookson didn't have any group accidents like Jim's did, but that's just luck. You get enough bikes in one place, and you have no idea what might happen.

HOLY SMOKES Croz…glad you’re OKAY!

I only saw one wreck on the Jim’s run unless one happened behind me. There was a pile up at the start of the run turning out of the service road in front of Jim’s Harley onto 54th Ave. I mean, they only made it fifty feet and…clunk. However, it was still wet from that rain.

I do the Jim’s run because I support and sponsor that particular charity. I would also do a toy run if a friend asked because it’s usually a good cause and probably important to my friend. Otherwise, I don’t actively look for toy runs or other parade rides because they’re recipes for disaster.

The gear saved you. Glad you and the Wife are ok, Croz.

Bikes can always be repaired, but injuries can lost a long time.
