My educated guess ...   red reflector required on the rear.  None of my bikes still have the rear reflector tho and I have never been pulled over on any of my bikes. It seems to me that as long as your rear light is working you are likely good to go.

Just my $.02

That’s exactly what the statute says…

316.415 Reflectors.—Every motorcycle and motor-driven cycle shall carry on the rear, either as part of the taillamp or separately, at least one red reflector. A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a nonmoving violation as provided in chapter 318.

I’m getting ready to register an old dual sport after a restoration and I got a set of those license plate bolts that have reflectors. Rule doesn’t specify the size and only addresses the rear. A buck and a half down at Autozone for them. I’m hoping that’ll be okay if DMV decides to inspect.

Many of the sporty crowd yank those enormous reflectors on the front forks. I haven’t, but the way they say they do it is put heat on ‘em with a hair dryer and drag fish line behind the reflector.

Our DMV is so busy now that the county took over there is no way they are going outside to check anything. They often close the doors at mid-morning cause they have all the people they can process for the day.

Sorry about that link not working. I pasted the actual statute now.

On the DMV, ditto up here I believe. My son recently had to take his driving test and at that time we found that they merged three driver test locations into one. Even had to make an appointment.

If I get a bike that has them, the first thing I do is take them off and smash them with a hammer.

If they come off a cool looking Nightster, they should be melted in a fire.
