My 5 year old grandson is going to get his first try on the Flat Track this Saturday @ the Ocala Micro Speedway.  He has 3 FTR Hair Scrambles for Pee Wee's under his belt.  I won't call them races, looked more like a Sunday ride than a race, but his confidence is gaining.

My son Dylan is even going to ride a loaner in his first Flat Track in over 30 years!!

http://www.southerndirttrackassociation.com/Home_Page.php  for those in the Ocala area looking for something different to do on a Saturday evening.

Ya know…I wasn’t aware of that flat track facility up in Ocala. Flat track racing is fun (to watch). Looks like this weekend is the last event for the summer and, of course, I’m booked solid…otherwise would like to take jr to go see it. Report back on how your grandson does and wish him luck for us.

It is fun to watch.  As I understand it, the facility is fairly new to motorcycles.  Thanks, will let you know.  They will probably start the new season.

Grandson really enjoyed the Flat Track.  A bit nervous at first, but by the last race, he could have used a little more speed.  Learned the difference between his and the winning KTM 50 (besides about 2 years age) was 1 tooth larger on the front sprocket.  He has been to Dade City, and done Pee Wee Hair Scrambles.  Said he likes the Flat Track best.

My son, Dylan rode the amatuer class on a borrowed Yamaha 450 for his first time on a Flat Track as an adult.  He rode the 2 heat races without a skid shoe and had trouble keeping his foot down but still took second.  A friend loaned him a boot and skid shoe for the final.  Dylan took the hole shot and never looked back!  Needless to say we were all elated!

I was truly impressed with the track promoters.  One of which loaned Dylan the bike.  Very family oriented.  The racers were mostly kids, or as old or older than me.  The crowd was not huge, but very friendly.  At one time or another during the afternoon and evening, many racers and fans stopped by to welcome us all to the event.  We will be going back in the fall.

Hey, that's great that Dylan got some flattrack racing in. I'll bet that was a lot of fun.

That little Katoom looks like it's really screaming in the photo. Do the regearing for the fall races and I'll bet he wins!

Yes you did.  I snagged them off myself.  Kind of partial to this one, although you have to trust me it is Dylan.

Dylan was "Bit" pretty good on that Flat Track last month.

Picked this up yesterday for the season to re-open in September.  icon_cheers

Wow! That's pretty neat. Come Fall, I'll be making a trip up to Ocala to check that place out and see Dylan race the RM.

OK, how do you type: "Southern Dirt Track Association" and get their html link assigned to the words?

I saw this place in a craigslist ad today and they say that they have oval flat tracks. It’d be a hike for you guys down to Ft. Mead, but if Dylan is getting antsy to test out the RM it might be worth a day trip or a weekend…

Quote this post and you can see the formula in the quote I did right above. It’s the icon with the little world that says insert hyperlink.

Thanks for the URL tip.  Just have to remember it next time I want to do it!  Huh?

We were at Dirty Foot park in May.  Grandson did a Pee Wee Hair Scramble.  I do not remember Oval Tracks, but it is a big property.  It is 100.5 miles from my door.  Not bad on the Yamaha, but a fair run for Dylan and the camper.

Typical 5 year old, Liam actually enjoyed the swing about as much as the riding!!  He was not ready to try the higher Zip Line in the second picture.

I did not spend enough time there in May.  Definately worth a trip back. Will have to talk to Dylan.
