A couple guys I know and I will be doing this Coast2Coast Charity Ride on November 12. One of the guys, who’s from St. Pete, did it last year and said it was a good day and he got to see a lot of good roads that he hadn’t been on before. It’s an all day ride that starts in Sefner and ends in Daytona Beach. There’s a $15 charity fee ($10 in advance) that goes to The Leukemia Society.

Below is the link to the website that has the details, except they’re not releasing the route. I think it looks pretty cool and am looking forward to it.

http://www.flc2c.com/

I’ll probably get a room over in the Holiday Inn Express in Daytona Beach where the post-ride festivities will be held. More details when we get closer if you’re interested in going…

Windy Acres two weekends before, the FL ST Owners get together the weekend in between and then this.  Hmmm, three motorcycle trips three weekends in a row, I think I can live with that.   Grin  Retirement can't get here fast enough.   Cool

Interesting side note, the pre-registration process for this event directs you to an online ride coordination service called Ride Masters. There weren’t a lot of details about the service surfing around in there, but there were a bunch of rides and you can look at information about the biker-bike for the ride you’re registering. You can see a list of brands that will be on the ride, number of riders (plus passengers), then a listing of each rider, what they ride, the bike’s range and you can even put a photo in there. Oh, and you can communicate with the other riders through email, too.

Here’s the link to the Coast2Coast ride/riders:

http://rides.jasonjonas.com/riderList.php?rcid=-1&id=189

Anyway, I thought this was interesting. It gets me to thinking…

I think the interesting part is there is more Honda's than anything else listed so far.  Grin

What!? There are two ST1300s in there. One says the range is 375 miles and the other says 440 miles. I think they have large tanks but what do those V4s get per gallon?

I see there are two other Tenere's also.   Grin

I see some pretty outrageous mileage claims.  They have 7.1 gal fuel tank and the the closest I have come to running out I was at 286 miles and put 7.03 gal in it.  That was 95% surface streets riding and I was using the bike for work so I wasn't riding like my usual self, just mostly keeping up with traffic with the occasional 5mph over, honest I swear.   Grin  Obviously we do better for highway miles but when I get to approx. 250 miles my low bar starts flashing and telling me I have 49 miles until empty so when traveling I start looking for gas.  Usually ready for a break off the bike by then anyway.   So even with that I am only looking at 300 miles a tank.  Lugging the engine I can show a 50 mpg average but on the highway she is really comfortable around 80 and I am usually showing a  34 to 36 mpg average using the throttle lock.  At 90 that drop's down to the high 20's.  Bike is comfortable at 90 also but my wallet is not.   Grin

Normally I get about 130 a tank out of mine.

Riding with Jamie I got 110.  Grin

The stylish tank looks good on my bike, but not much for range.

I was also surprised by the makeup of bikes signed up. Charity rides around here are normally about 80-90% Harley, but this is a much longer ride then most charity rides.

Any thing over 10 miles w/o a bar stop to show off the chrome and you start eliminating 80% of the HD's.   Grin

Yup. First night out on the FGT, back roads, you know who’s leading, I’m somewhere in the middle of the pack, seems like we’re going at little fast, look at the speedo…92!  Grin

As Dan said, this is turning to an interesting mix of models, and now someone has signed in with a 1962 Honda Ca95. No pic so that's just a file photo below.  Cool

And they're up to four ST1300s now. The latest posts his range as 450.  Shocked

I think they must be smoking breakfast.   Roll Eyes  I went and searched the ST site and every one is right where I am at but a few did report better gas mileage after 10k miles which I am not quite half way too.  Average mileage seems to be between 40mpg and 50mpg even though an average 50mpg would mean 350 miles on a tank, that would put you bone dry and only would happen if you shifted early and stayed under 60mph and we know that isn't happening with me.   Grin  There is an exception and that is many long distance riders do put aux fuel tanks on and maybe that is these guy's I would have no idea??  I personally think 250 miles in between breaks is plenty.

I got the route for this ride in email tonight. Man, it’s all over the place. 205 miles, six and a half hours in the saddle, and I don’t think we’re on one road for over five miles.

It’s not too late if anyone wants to go, but 149 bikes? This is going to be like a toy run.  Grin

Just getting back from the Coast2Coast ride event yesterday. Really had a great time!

This morning I took I-4 from Daytona over to Tampa; about two and a half hours. Yesterday, we went the other way, but on 80 different back roads that took us up along the east side of the Withlacoochee Forest at Crooms and along the lower edge of Ocala National and then over to Daytona. We actually went through a town called Opahumpka! There was one 20 mile stretch on this route towards the end, but the vast majority of these roads were two to five miles, and mostly on the lower end of that. Anyway, it was six and a half hours in the saddle.

Lots of bikes participated (149 were signed) but there was absolutely no congestion along the route. I led a small pack of five and we might have caught up with another group twice along the way. This event was a benefit for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. If they do it again next year, I highly recommend!

There are a lot of roads on this route that we’ll need to get on for the FGT. The guy who put this together really picked out the nice twisties and sweepers. There was one huge sweeper I thought we were going to go in a damn circle before we came out of it. I mapped the whole thing out, but you’ll see the roads that are targets for February (two parts, click the links to the googlemaps).

Great job Bill on recreating the route's Bill. I'll finalize the FGT this week.  My kid tore his knee up last night so I will be playing nurse maid all week anyway.   Roll Eyes

All the proceeds (entry fees and some raffles and 50/50s) went to the Society for research. It was a good turn out so I bet they did well. Glad you're a survivor...stay that way.
